To the people out there who is elder than me, see if you can remember these facts!!! XP

BIOLOGY- is the study of life

FACTS!
the word "biology" comes from the Greek words
'bios' which means life and 'logos' which means study..

CELLULAR COMPONENTS OF ANIMAL AND PLANT CELLS
-plasma membrane
(regulates the movement of substances in and out of the cytoplasm, made of proteins and PHOSPHOLIDS)

-cell wall (made up of cellulose and gives shape to a plant cells and gives mechanical support. Besides that, it also helps to protect the plant from rupturing (exploding) due to the excessive intake of water)

-cytoplasm (jelly-like, acts as a medium for biochemical reactions in the cell,provides substances from the external evironment to the organelles)

-nucleus : nucleolus,neucleoplasm,chromatin (chromosomes),nuclear membrane.
(control all cell activities and also carries out genetic information (Chromosomes in chromatin)

-vacuole :
(STORAGE PLACE IN A CELL)
you can find :
contractile vacuoles and food vacuoles
contractile ( regulates water balance in the organisms)
cell sap (contains water, organic acids, sugar, amino acids, mineral salts, waste substances, pigments and metabolic by-products) - support herbaceous plants so that they do not wilt easily..

-mitochondria (involved in cellular respiration..releases energy when glucose is broken down..Energy is stored in the form of ATP and can be used readily by the cells.

-ribosomes (contains RIBONUCLEIC ACID and PROTEIN) - synthesis of proteins
-endoplasmic reticulum
ROUGH :
1) transport the proteins made by the ribosomes throughout the cell
SMOOTH :
1) synthesis of lipids
2) detoxification of drugs
3) metabolic by-products

-golgi apparatus (processing, packaging and transporting of carbohydrates, phospholids, proteins and glycoproteins)

-lysosomes (contains hydrolytic enzymes - break down complex organic molecules, break down unwanted structures and also digest bacteria)

-centrioles (only in animals, form SPINDLE FIBRES during cell division of animal cells)

-chloroplasts (only in plants, contain chlorophyll and green pigments..traps the sunlight and convert the light energy into chemical energy)

Living process of an AMOEBA! (unicellular organisms)
-moves by extending the pseudopodia or 'false feet' and anchoring the tips on the ground
-they eat microscopic organisms BACTERIA!
-produce asexually : binary fission (when the environment is favourable) and produce spores(when the environment is not favourable)
-feeding using pseudopodia ..PHAGOCYTOSIS
(food digested by LYSOZYME)
-exchange of gases, nutrients and waste substances by SIMPLE DIFFUSION
-EXCRETION through contractile vacuoles when they receive the maximum of water..They contract to expel its contents from time to time) OSMOREGULATION

CELL ORGANISATION IN ANIMALS
MAJOR TISSUES FOUND:
epithelial,muscle,connective and nerve'

Muscle tissues:
a)smooth muscle (intestines, blood vessels, urinary tracts and reproductive tracts)
-responsible for involuntary body activities
-contract slower than skeletal muscle but can remain contracted for a longer period of time
b)skeletal muscle (arms and legs)
-responsible for voluntary activities
-contract and relax TO MOVE THE BONES
c)cardiac muscle (wall of the heart)
-involve in involuntary activity
-contract to pump blood to all parts of the body
